We receive many questions from our customers about how to use their products. Often, we get asked the same question over and over again. For those questions that are frequently asked and can be answered in a few sentences, we have set up this section to help you. The following are our frequently asked questions and the answers. Questions: Why do I get multiple image files when I backup my main hard drive? Answers: Why do I get multiple image files when I backup my main hard drive? If you follow my recommendations and do a full image backup to an external hard drive, you may be surprised to see more than one image file on the external hard drive after the backup has completed successfully. Don't be concerned. This is totally normal. Let me explain why this happens. When you purchase an external hard drive, it comes formatted and ready to use. The manufacturer has formatted it with FAT32 so that it can be attached to most Windows based computers. FAT32 is a good file system and works just fine on your external hard drive. FAT32 does have a maximum file size limit of 4GB that most of use are not aware of. We seldom see files on our hard drive that are larger than 4GB in size. Backup image files of your entire main hard drive can be very large and so True Image will automatically break up a very large image file that needs to be stored on a FAT32 hard drive into segments that are no larger than 4GB each. So, what you are seeing on your external hard drive is image segments that are less than 4GB in size. If True Image needs to restore your main hard drive, it will automatically merge all of these segments back together as it rebuilds your main hard drive.
